How beautifully you've made a visual delight out of these complex shapes. It's a delicious puzzle that leads your eye around all the warm buttery planes. Gosh, you're good with color, Kaethe!
Love this painting....it was gone when I went to purchase!!!:( Happy for your sale though! I love your work...you have mastered the shade end of paint....I always wonder how you do that. Do you darken with a mixed black or with the compliment? I can never seem to get it right.
I was surprised at the response this little painting got. And what a compliment to have a talented artist as yourself, want my painting! I very rarely use black. I guess you could say I use compliments. Mostly what I think I do is label the color and desaturate it. Does that make sense? I got that from Stanley Goldstein.
All of the colors in this painting are not straight out of the tube. The background, I labeled blue but mixed with oranges and reds and white. The kernel that has a shade piece...that's yellow mixed with ultramarine and other colors. Does that make sense?
lOVE IT!

ReplyDeleteGreat painting. It is your magical way of painting shapes in the light and shapes in the shadow that makes everything you do, really awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! A small subject on a small canvas and you did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteWell done Kaethe! Can't even imagine it! Julie was spot on. You've got it going on!!
