This is a painting that I recently submitted for the Alameda County Fair and it got accepted! It is a 16x20 oil on canvas. The fair starts on June 20th and runs til July 8th. Summer is here!
Gorgeous! Love how you've treated each tomato uniquely, yet keep continuity in the colors, highlights, shadows. Plus you let the central ones within the box shine while slightly receding the ones on the sides. Very well thought out and executed. I hope you get the blue ribbon!
Thanks Karen. You are exactly right on my strategy for this painting. I decided to make the middle bunch of the tomatoes "the stars" . The light is a blue light, so I tried to make the highlights near the same family. This was not one of the easier paintings I have done but it was fun.
Kaethe, this is a truly gorgeous painting. It has a sense of celebration about it...the variety of colors and shapes you've described in a bunch of tomatoes is amazing.

ReplyDeletegreat job painting the blue reflections on the tomatoes. I can see why it was accepted. Sending good luck wishes in case there are prizes.
