The Border Collie

I just completed this commission. Obviously I took some artistic license and changed the background and tilt of the head. Speaking of which, I thought the dog was leaning against the fence until my friend suggested that maybe this was a photo of him lying on a deck. Hmm. I changed the background to a damask pattern. I have a tablet of damask papers that I was going to use for collage and bought 2 years ago. I am glad I could use it for something. This is an 8x10 acrylic on canvas,

  1. Love this painting. You captured her calm nature. I grew up with Border Collie and haven't thought of her in years. :)

    1. I had always thought of these dogs as working dogs, not really interested in pets or affection until my father in-law adopted one. Chopper is very sweet and thinks he is a lap dog. Thanks for commenting on the painting :)

  2. I love damask and I love this painting! A spot-on likeness to your subject but more than that, it's better than a pet portrait. A true work of art - love it, Kaethe! ♥

  3. You are so nice Karen. I have a little rescue bird portrait to do. I'm thinking of playing with another damask pattern. It's good to remind myself that things can be altered . . . The benefit of creating, I suppose.
