I study with 3 great artists on a fairly consistent basis. Stanley Goldstein almost every Monday night. Tim Horn once a month for critiques and at least once a year with Peggi Kroll Roberts. Perhaps you see Peggi's influence here. Well, at least you see her daughter Ali in the forefront.
I brought this little painting into our critique session this past Monday. I won't state what I thought I needed to correct but it was suggested by Tim to do this as a larger work. I think I will!

If you are interested, I have 2016 desk calendars for sale. You can email me, kaethebealer@yahoo.com  or go to my DailyPaintworks page to purchase for $10.

  1. This painting is just superb, Kaethe. The way you've handled the light is especially striking. Strong composition, solid figure work and a rich color palette -- this one has it all!

  3. I was studying this, and hadn't yet read your description. My immediate thought was I could see Peggy Kroll's technique of connecting all the darks in the early stages. When I read your comments, they confirmed that this is indeed one reason for the success of this painting. (That, and your enormous skill, of course!) It's wonderful, Kaethe.

    1. Thank you Helene! I have always been drawn to Peggi's work. Hopefully, you can see me in here as well :-). I love light and shadow and creating design although it is also my struggle!

    2. I certainly CAN see you in this, Kaethe! Your wonderful technique is completely apparent. It's just that I've often looked to the work of Peggi Kroll Roberts because I tend to fiddle and lose that strong light/dark design, and I knew from your bio that you'd studied with Peggi. Whatever the source, you've clearly incorporated great design in this painting!

  5. Hi Kaethe, i love the light in this painting.
Looking at your wonderful works in your DPW gallery, I wondered if you were influenced by the fabulous Peggi Kroll Roberts. Then I read your blog profile. You've made them your own - love your work. As one of your many collectors, I wish you continued success Kaethe!
