David Shevlino's demo the night before the workshop
day 1 figure
day 2 portrait
day 3 figure
day 4 figure
In my quest to become a better painter, I had the opportunity to take David Shevlino's 4 day workshop at the Carmel Visual Arts in Carmel, CA. First, I would like to say what a generous and nice instructor David is. He was very accommodating to requests to demo or spend time individually with our paintings. He is a master painter and I came away with having a little more comfort with using a bigger brush and how to lose edges. If you have any interest in learning more about David's work (he has videos and books), click here. BTW, the brushes he had on his materials list are from Rosemary & Co. Painting the figure is good exercise for learning to paint everything else!
These are very striking and fabulous paintings - even more so for workshop work. I never do well in them.
ReplyDeleteYour professional aptitude with color and value must have delighted David Shavlino.
I have never forgotten seeing a paining he did in a magazine of a diver coming off the board - captured mid-air. It was brilliant the way it looked as if it was moving. Thanaks for sharing his info.
Thank you Julie. You would have done well! You do a fab job with edges!
DeleteThese are wonderful, Kaethe, especially considering they were done at a workshop. You obviously bring a lot to the table, but it's apparent you've also taken on board all that David Shevlino had on offer. Your paintings have a wonderful fluidity and spontaneity -- and, yes, some lovely soft lost edges! I think they're grand!
ReplyDeleteThank you Helene!
DeleteWow, Kaethe, these are stunning! I actually came within a whisker of booking into his workshop in New York state (or Massachusetts?) during May but in the end the logistics got a bit tricky. Maybe next time I make it to the US!:)
ReplyDeleteI thought you were going to say that you were almost in Carmel for his workshop! Wish we could have met up! Hope your trip has been fabulous!
DeleteIt was totally fabulous thanks Kaethe! Maybe next time I can meet you in California or Hawaii!! Or over here!
