Day 4...Still painting.

acrylic on cradled panel

I decided that since I work full time, have a second job and upcoming commissions, I am not going to kill myself trying to get a painting done every single day but rather just paint everyday.
This is the beginning of "Beach Day". I am trying to assess value patterns and get my drawing correct. I toned my panel with burnt umber and used it to lay in the figures. The negative shapes help to correct my drawing. See the spaces between the legs and the arm of the man and the dog? Its close but still not right. You can tell I struggled with the man's arm. Yes drawing and painting are definitely challenges!

  1. Great start Kaethe. Thanks for sharing your approach to drawing. I have recently started using negative space for more accuracy in drawing. Learning this concept has made a lot of difference. I still struggle with drawing but I know better now.

    1. I really should be drawing everyday! It would improve accuracy and speed!

  2. You are definitely up to the challenge. Thanks for sharing your thoughts / struggles.

  3. Yes they are challenges. I like how you discuss your drawing process and I know from my instructors how valuable those negative spaces are to getting an accurate drawing. Bravo!
