Day 7: An Exercise

8x10
acrylic on cradled panel

This Tuesday we will reconvene our critiques group with Tim Horn. We had an assignment given to us in June? Anyway, par usual, I waited til the last minute. We are supposed to paint an interior from life. I am either here on the boat or at work so I guess it was painting the interior of the boat. There are all kinds of mistakes going on that I won't point out. I will tell you though, that the blob thingy on the couch is our dog Niko. Yes, we are THOSE people. We do cover the couch as you can see. I painted this in 2 hours. I know...it kind of looks that way. It was a good exercise though!

Check out the 30 day challenge!

  2. What a great view of your life. The boat looks really comfy and so does the dog.

  4. Dog people are my favorite, and I love this little painting. You really captured the watery feel. Even in the thumbnail, I knew that I was looking at a boat's interior. Nicely done!!

  5. This is lovely. It really gives the feeling of the light and the enclosed space of the boat. Well done. Especially in two hours!

  7. I think this looks fantastic - you're being too hard on yourself. It's a tough perspective and it's perfect. The whole contrast between the outside and inside is great too. And that "blob" -- ha! -- I knew immediately that's a dog. Incidentally, we're "those" kind of people too. Dare I say it, we have one on the bed with us at night too. Ugh. It's more laundry, but definitely warmer in the winter. :)

I'm enjoying following your "Challenge" paintings, Kaethe. The last one - the family on the beach is terrific too. They all are, but I can't paint figures, so those always blow me away. :) Take care.

  8. Thank you everyone! And Kara, I have to say that I enjoy your "madden Girls" everyday! It is on our salon wall but was not captured in the painting!

  9. Me thinks you are too hard on yourself, this is a delightful painting and it feels like you are just sitting there looking out. Love the puppy also.
