Class

12x12
acrylic on linen
Here is another painting that I had around and wasn't sure I would ever finish. That critique class I take with Tim Horn really helps. Tim always has good suggestions and so do the other students. The feedback gave me some thoughts on what to do to complete this puppy. So thanks to everyone there! By the way, this is Tim teaching at the Moore ranch in Marin. My friend Sylvie is in the foreground with her back to us. (First Place 2014 Tracy Art League Expressions Show and SOLD)

    1. Thank you for saying that. I struggled with them. I had to keep making the sky lighter!

    1. Thank you. If it wasn't for my class feedback, it would have wound up in the throw away bin. Lesson learned, I suppose. Take a second look at the rejects. :)

  3. Hi Kaethe, I seldom comment on blogs but have followed yours since our Market class with Jennifer. Your paintings continue to grow and I love watching the progress. This painting is great and yes, sometimes we need to give a second look. Certainly a lesson learned for me.

  4. I remember the first time I saw a painting of yours and thought how great your values were. This is the same. I have seen this scene so many tmes in life, but not so well painted.

    1. Thank you Helen. Sometimes I think my lights are too light. I want them to have color as well.

  7. Super composition and soft palette. It's so helpful to have other artists in our lives who can give constructive critiques!

  9. WOW - look at all the comments - I saw it and said to myself, this is really fantastic, but I have no idea why I fell in love (who does). I hope the other commentators nailed the why! I am going to save this as a great value study (most definitely something I need to get better at understanding/seeing).

    1. The amazing part is how well received this painting has been. I was going to throw it out but fortunately I had some help taking a second look.

    2. Thank goodness you didn't! It would have been an art crime!
