My husband asked me "why did you paint a rooster"? Does that make a statement or what? Whatever, I haven't ever painted a rooster so that's why. A big thank you to
Johnna Schelling who suggested another site you can get reference photos;
Paint My Photo. Its the site I used for this guy. 4x4 acrylic on gessobord.
I like it! It is funny, but people often ask me why I paint a certain subject and I just say, "why not". As artists, I think we see a painting in everything! I like your colors, the shadows, the light on his comb and the general feeling of the painting.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right! I am constantly looking at everything to see if it would make a good painting.
DeleteI was never really into roosters or chickens. But I have a good friend who loves them. And red. So I find myself always looking for them now. I couldn't paint one to save my life, so I very much appreciate seeing others master them so well. This one has got some serious attitude going on. Maybe there is a sign on the fence that reads, " Beware of the Rooster!"
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see them (roosters) I see them as the big man on campus. He does look serious, doesn't he?
DeleteBeautifully executed Kaethe! I love both your birds so far and have been impressed with your "three of a theme" theme you are so beautifully working through.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Wendy. I haven't decided if the next set of paintings will meet the "3 series criteria" but we'll see what I can do.
